Local media has reported $44,000 lost to some city workers stealing gasoline. What’s interesting is that in 2005 a select committee impaneled by then Mayor Wilder found that thefts of city gas were widespread. Yet 20 years later it’s still going on. How can it be that apparently Mayors Jones, Stoney, and now Avula have to some degree, allowed the theft of taxpayer funds to continue. Where is the oversight? Will our new CAO make certain the theft stops?
I hear Mayor Avula is all about cleaning things up, especially past abuses. Why has there been no announcement on correcting this?
Does anyone realize that these are crimes. Over $200 I think is grand larceny. Why are police not arresting the thieves. Is this an alternate universe where crime is ok?
How can this happen if ordinary checks and balances are in place? Guess that is too much to ask.
