Water Crisis? Will it happen again?

Water Crisis
More To Come?

January 2025 saw Richmonders without drinking water for 5 days, and two more boil water advisories thereafter. May 2025, DPU staff had failed to perform routine maintenance, replacing filters, and the water plant failed again.

Do we have the right systems and staff in place? Do you have confidence in the city water treatment plant? Should there be a regional authority created to run the Richmond water plant?

Local news says the city dpu is spending $160 million on a one new tank. Is the city ready for the water and sewer needs of 50,000 new houses expected under code refresh?

We drink bottled water. The city is not trustworthy.

Didn’t know quite where to put this since it seems applicable to RVA at large…council, mayor, schools, etc….but I have heard off and on for years that governments are here to solve problems. Whether the problems most of us live with in Richmond are done on purpose or laziness or incompetence…or something even worse like stupidity….I am hopeful that the people here who pay the bills start acting/talking/demanding changes.

And nothing’s gonna happen unless lots of us start acting/talking/demanding.

There’s lots of talk about “community” although that word gets divided into smaller communities as needed…the arts community, etc. The community – or its offsets – get both news coverage and attention.

Perhaps it’s time for a Taxpayer Community.

How do we know the water is safe to drink? Would you take the city’s word for it?
